A mind and body filled with purpose… This applies to every aspect of the martial artist. A mind and body filled with purpose, finds purpose in every aspect of life. From doing good to others as it calms the mind and spirit, to finding purpose in training specific moves and techniques because it brings about a better understanding, benefit, and uplifting joy. At Sifu Och’s Wing Chun Kung Fu Lakeland, we aim to cultivate a mind and body filled with purpose, guiding martial artists toward a life of direction and discipline.
It enables the practitioner to eliminate movements that claim to have purpose but lack a solid foundation. A trained practitioner in street realistic combat application can see the openings and weaknesses in new and old world viewed moves and techniques. A purpose filled mind looks for what works and eliminates what doesn’t.Masters and Grandmaster’s from all over have influenced my fighting application of Wing Chun Kung Fu, (fl kung fu lakeland).
Prepare for a Journey of Growth
This is not to say that just because you cannot get a technique down within 5 minutes of practicing it, a practitioner should dismiss it. Rather a practitioner, even if unable to use the technique once shown can calculate the odds of its success, render viable applications and scenarios where applicable and deduce the viable use of this new information in street survival.Masters and Grandmaster’s from all over have influenced my fighting application of Wing Chun Kung Fu, (fl kung fu lakeland).
A Wing Chun practitioner must follow certain principles for every technique in their arsenal to be part of their repertoire. To decipher what works and what doesn’t, when my students come across a martial art practitioner I tell them always to ask themselves the following questions. “Does it throw the opponent off mentally and physically?” “Does it go directly from your closest weapon to their closest vital?” “Can it be applied while minimizing your opponent’s ability to counter?” “Does it take your opponent doing a specific move or can you use it at anytime?” “Is it quick, causing pain, breaks, tears, knockout, or damage immediately?”
“Does it make use of the entire body as a simultaneous offensive and defensive weapon?” “Does it require both your hands to accomplish or is one free to attack and the other defend?” “Can it be done universally by any gender, age and weight class without using strength versus strength?” “Does it train reaction, or does it have to be executed with a medium to high level of conscious application?”
“Does it take more than two moves to accomplish your intended goal while causing pain, breaks or tears?”Masters and Grandmaster’s from all over have influenced my fighting application of Wing Chun Kung Fu, (fl kung fu lakeland).
What We Teach in Our Lakeland Kung Fu Facility
These are a few examples. But many techniques that do not fall under these principles get dismissed from the Wing Chun Kung Fu in Lakeland, FL mindset and fighting application. This does not mean that techniques from other styles are ineffective for combat. They simply don’t integrate into Wing Chun’s mind frame, structure, and principles.
A master practitioner of Wing Chun can quickly dismiss or affirm their own reactionary responses by using the rules and principles set forth by Wing Chun kung fu in lakeland fl.Hopefully these articles leave you with questions about my style of Wing Chun fl kung fu lakeland.
These rules and principles don’t make a practitioner dogmatic by following them but rather one that can expand and become more effective. It keeps the practitioner constantly thinking for the street and only what works versus what looks good. This maximizes the practitioner’s training time, by not wasting it on theoretical possibilities or fancy ego boosting applications.Masters and Grandmaster’s from all over have influenced my fighting application of Wing Chun Kung Fu, (fl kung fu lakeland).
The Goal of Wing Chun Kung Fu
A purpose filled mind is a mind that thinks for itself. It still gives respect and honor to the individuals responsible for the knowledge and skill they have attained. A purpose filled mind is a mind of respectful openness to outside stimulus and is extremely thankful when it comes across information that is not fake or fancy and is effective and quick.
You also have an unshakeable resolve to drop your opponent instantaneously. Your mind and body are purpose driven on the survival of you and your loved ones. Masters and Grandmaster’s from all over have influenced my fighting application of Wing Chun Kung Fu, (fl kung fu lakeland).
There are many Wing Chun principles. Perhaps the most obvious is keeping it simple. The less complex your movements and techniques are the more direct and the probability of connection increases. An opponent can pull you instead of resisting you. Move in with the energy striking directly while using the opponent’s pull as additional force. Instead of kicking to the head which is six to eight feet from the back leg, a Wing Chun practitioner will use the front leg to strike. This kick to the opponent’s knee covers only a three to four foot distance. It also twists all of their current weight onto it.
Growth & Discipline as a Wing Chun Practitioner
A Wing Chun practitioner does not learn to turn the body away from the assailant to become a smaller target. Instead, they learn that this action pulls fifty percent of their defense away from the attack at hand. If the assailant was to trap the side closest to them, when closing the gap, the other side would not be able to provide a simple or direct response.
All of Wing Chun’s combinations should flow together. They form a “chain” of high and low attacks on the centerline. These are all things that make this art so different and unique. They are not attacks on other styles or their teaching methods. Instead, they compare and highlight each style’s uniqueness.
