Taekwondo Dad and son
I trained in Taekwondo in college over 20 years ago and recently I started Wing Chun a few months ago with my son. My son wanted to learn how to defend himself. He researched it and kept coming back to Wing Chun Kung Fu. Suprisingly we found a extremely knowledgeable and recommended Wing Chun Kung Fu instructor in Lakeland, Florida. Everything we heard about the school was amazing. The classes are a great mix of aerobic excercise/workout and practical instruction and reflex scenario drills and training.
Marine Corps Infantry Joins Wing Chun
Years in the Marine Corps infantry, military martial arts training including MMA, Jiu Jitsu, Boxing, Hand to Hand field combat…On day one I full contact sparred and wanted to test Sifu Och’s Wing Chun guys and all I can say is that Wing Chun Kung Fu under Sifu Och in Lakeland, FL. has proven to be the most effective fight training I have ever been able to find. I have always felt confident in hand to hand close combat but now my speed, precision and power have noticeably increased. As a proud Marine for the U.S. Military I would tell you to check out Sifu Och Wing Chun.
Lakeland Bootcamp with Disability/Injury
I had a prior injury and permanent disability and was apprehensive about joining crossfit. After much research I instead joined Sifu Och’s kung fu bootcamp to get in shape, improve my flexibility, endurance and strength. With no prior experience I was uninterested in practicing any violent sport I also didn’t want to cause another injury. However Sifu Och was patient and had me watch and slowly practice Wing Chun with him personally. Practicing Wing Chun martial arts is the best decision I have ever made in my life.
Increased Health and Defense
What brought me into Wing Chun martial art classes downtown lakeland fl was its proximity. What got me to stay were all the results! At 36 with a office job I was out of shape and well on my way to having health problems. As I huffed up the stairs to work one day I decided enough was enough and joined Sifu Och’s martial arts boot camp in lakeland fl. I didn’t know what to expect but everyone was welcoming and helpful. I knew that I needed a workout that wouldn’t bore me and I have always wanted to take some form of self defense.
Physical and Mental challenge
I really enjoy training in Wing Chun. It has challenged me physically and mentally. The class is a wonderful new experience, everyone here is like a big family helping and supporting each other in every class. Wing Chun Kung Fu martial arts in lakeland fl is a journey of learning. After training in Tae Kwon Do for 3 years and with boxing training, Wing Chun has taught me how to defend myself better, increase my personal discipline and has created an enviroment that has been loving every hard earned moment.
Wing Chun Training and Family
Serious combat training, Sifu and my Wing Chun training partners have become family. Sifu is like my big brother whom I love and have the ultimate respect. He will kick me in the butt if I need it, but he will also be there to uplift, train and bring me to a new level. My training partners have helped me through my ups and downs both in Wing Chun and in life and are invaluable to me. I hope I can be an inspiration to the ranks around me, as those above have been to me. Tiredness is just a weak excuse for quitters, pushing forward everyday.
Caring Support and Lots of FUN
Without the caring support of Sifu and my Sihings I wouldn’t be where I am now. They have been, and still are, an indispensable source of encouragement. How many times have I heard them say things like: “Relax, you will get it,” “Don’t be so hard on yourself,” “You did really well today!” Sometimes just watching Wing Chun being done by the upper sashes gives me hope that I will get there myself one day. If I push myself and put in the time and the effort, I can become as fast, as confident, as powerful, as determined, as fluid, and as successful as they are.
Every moment counts… Wing Chun
Wing Chun has taught me to make every single moment counts and meaningful while teaching me to take every punch and action slow enough to get it perfect. If it’s not perfect then make it perfect. Train it right from the beginning. Training it right from the beginning in Wing Chun has taught me to start slow – even at painstakingly slow speeds of 40bpm to train it right from the beginning. Training it right from the beginning has taught me in Wing Chun that anything I do in Wing Chun will be the outcome of how I built it up in the past. In a few words, it has been difficult but enlightening.
Sifu Och has changed my life
Wing Chun hasn’t just changed my life – but it has become a part of it. I simply can’t quit; I’ve gained far too much in such a short time. But the scary thing is that I have barely even touched the surface of what Wing Chun is truly all about. because of the people before me, the people who will come after me, for the people whose responsibility is mine to protect, and for the incredible depth of wealth I will receive that will impact every aspect of my life. I am so grateful. Thank you Sifu Och.
